    Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

    What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

OCD consists of unwanted intrusive thoughts(obsessions), and compulsive behaviors people engage in as an attempt to get relief from the obsessions. Those obsessions and compulsions consume a lot of time and affect the person’s daily functioning.

Common obsessions: fear of contamination, fear of losing control, fear of causing “something bad” to happen, perverse sexual thoughts, perfectionism, excessive concern with religiosity, and superstitious ideas.

Common compulsions: washing and cleaning, checking, repeating, mental compulsions (repeated review of events, praying, counting, organizing, etc). These are all engaged in compulsively with an attempt to get relief from the obsessions.

This disorder can be treated successfully with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy, Medication, and Family Support and Education.

Usually people wait an average of 10 years to get treatment from the time they first experience symptoms of OCD. Don’t wait that long! No need to deal with OCD alone. Schedule an appointment now to start taking charge of your OCD. It can be treated!

I’m certified by the International OCD Foundation to treat OCD, and can help you feel more in control.

Call now to schedule an appointment and surprise yourself with the positive changes this can bring to your life.
