Members of a cohesive group feel warmth and comfort in the group and a sense of belongingness; they value the group and feel in turn that they are valued, accepted, and supported by other members. ~ Irvin D. Yalom
Why group?
There’s just something healing about working through some of your issues with other people going through that same experience in life.
Sometimes, you just need to know that you’re not alone. You want to bounce a few thoughts off of others who really get it.
Group therapy helps you process your issues, offers support, understanding, and suggestions. Your fellow group members are your accountability partners, too.
So how does it work?
Groups meet once a week for 75 minutes. Some are ongoing, while others are time limited.
The time limited 8-week-long groups cost $650 due at registration.
The ongoing groups cost $80 per session, also due at registration, and require a three-month commitment. After the initial three months, recommitment is on a month-to-month basis.
Sleep Wellness Group (time limited)
Do you suffer from insomnia or other disruptive sleep patterns? If you want to learn effective techniques to improve the quality of your sleep, this group is for you. The group meets for 8 weeks and focuses on specific strategies to promote sleep wellness.
Healing Heartbreak Group (ongoing)
Discovering one or several sexual indiscretions from your partner can devastate and traumatize you. Together, we focus on processing the trauma and explore specific practical strategies for healing, reclaiming your life, and moving forward.
This is a group for females whose male partners have been sexually unfaithful.
Sexual Anorexia Group (ongoing)
Do you dread sexual pleasure, or does the mere idea of sex instill fear and fill you with self-doubt? Are you usually physically, mentally and emotionally obsessed about avoiding sex?
This obsession can become a distraction and an escape from all of life’s difficulties. This group focuses on understanding this condition and exploring the avenues to work through it effectively to promote sexual health.
Wisdom and Hot Flashes (ongoing)
A group for perimenopausal women (40s to 60s), addressing the psycho-social issues associated with that phase of life. You’ll learn practical skills to address the symptoms of The Change.
UCLA PEERS® Social Skills Training Groups
The Social Skills Training Groups meet for 8 weeks and cost $2,000 plus $300 for the intake, due at registration. This nonrefundable fee covers the training for the participants and their social coaches. If interested, please call or email to schedule a 15-minute phone pre-screening to assess goodness of fit.
For Adolescents
This group is an 8-week, evidence-based social skills intervention program for motivated middle and high school teens interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends.
Grouped with peers of their own age, teens meet weekly for 90 minutes in Buckhead. During each group session, they’ll learn crucial social skills and put them into immediate practice during socialization activities.
Parents will also be coached on how to assist their teens in making and keeping friends by helping to expand their teen’s social network and providing feedback through coaching during weekly socialization homework assignments.
Enrollment is limited. Parent participation is required. Your teen will learn how to use appropriate conversational skills, to use humor appropriately, and to handle arguments and disagreements. In addition, he or she will learn how to choose appropriate friends, be a good host and sport, and find common interests by trading information.
The course will also feature such crucial 21st century skills as how to handle rejection, teasing and bullying, how to deal with rumors and gossip, and how to change a bad reputation.
For Young Adults (18 to 30 years old)
This group is an 8-week, evidence-based social skills intervention program for motivated young adults, who want to learn skills to make and keep friends and to develop romantic relationships.
During each group session, young adults will learn and immediately practice crucial social skills. Enrollment is limited.
Participants will learn the skills stressed in the adolescent course but will also sharpen their skills in conflict mediation and resolution, appropriate boundary setting, and dating etiquette.
